JTE Academy - February 2010Junior Team England - Academy

Recently I received an invitation from Terry Searle of Junior Team England to come along on the 13th February and meet some of the bowlers during the JTE Academy being held in AMF Bowling Firth Park, Sheffield. As this was relatively close to my home in Leeds, and as I was already planning to be in the area that day verifying the identity of applicants for the CRB disclosure that forms part of their BTBA license applications, I was glad to be able to drop in for an hour or so to meet some of the bowlers.

GirlsBoysThey had each been given a piece of string of various lengths, some stickers and Terry Searle and Keith Bringloe had also drawn various different symbols and characters on their hands. You will need to speak to the bowlers to find out the relevance of these unusual bowling accessories, but I do know that they form an integral part of their training for the day, which covered both the physical and mental aspects of international play.

Terry_SearleKeith_BringloeA lot of work and planning goes into these Academy sessions and during my brief time their I was able to find out a little more about the way that Terry and Kieth Bringloe put these together. I was also pleased to see that there was a fair amount of visible support from parents and other supporters for the day.

I was able to meet each member of the squad briefly and observe some of the coaching and managed to get each of them to complete a brief hand written profile. It took some time to decipher some of the writing and I apologise in advance if I have made any mistakes. .
